Without Bonus is based on Monica Larsson’s one year diary from when she worked as a bank clerk at a large Swedish bank. We follow her and her customers through life’s daily struggles; the man who stubbornly insists that there is indeed still money in the account or the woman who claims she never withdrew that money even though security cameras captured her doing so. Money is vital to our lives, whether we have it or not. Social differences are quite obvious to a bank employee. That the image of the bank as a respected institution has been changed to a “wheel and deal” market, makes life no easier for Monica. If you do not know salesmanship, you might just as well stay home from work. Well, that is the word from the top at least. Monica’s diary offers more than an inward perspective – it paints a picture of a forever changing society.

On the way to work Karin found a wallet. It contained several thousand Swedish crowns, she called the police’s lost and found and told them about her find. In the afternoon an older gentleman shows up. He has his son with him. The police have used the details about the wallet to get in touch with him and now he is here to pick it up. He takes the wallet from Karin and turns around to leave. “What are you doing, aren’t you going to leave a finder’s fee?” says the son. The father looks angrily at the son and takes out a 50 Swedish crowns bill and gives it to Karin. The son’s face turns red, he takes the wallet from his father and removes a 1,000 Swedish crowns bill and hands it to Karin. The father tries to protest but he doesn’t have time, the son firmly takes him by the arm and leads him out of the bank. “You are seriously wacko,” says the son.
