The action unfolded as Allied naval and merchant seamen, airmen, submariners, and intelligence officers delivered on their countries' promise to take arms to Russia as the Germans hunted them in aircraft, U-boats, and surface fleet spearheaded by Tirpitz and Scharnhorst.
